MAthematics
Vision
We aim to ensure that every child can reach their full potential without a pre-conceived limit being put on their ability or attainment.
We aim to deliver a curriculum that focuses chiefly on the depth of understanding rather than simple breadth of knowledge.
Our objectives in the teaching of Mathematics are:
- to promote learning through practical activity, exploration and discussion
- to use a wide variety of images, visual resources and pictorial representations to stimulate, encourage and challenge children’s conceptual understanding.
- to promote confidence through a deep understanding of number and the number system
- to develop the ability to solve problems through decision making and reasoning
- to build fluency of number facts
- to develop a practical understanding of the ways in which data and information are gathered and presented
- to explore features of geometry; and develop skills in measurement across a range of context
- to allow children to better make connections between number
- to allow children to better make connections between different domains of Mathematics
- to help children understand the importance of Mathematics in everyday life
- to develop the cross-curricular use of Mathematics in other subjects
- to ensure all children are given opportunities to develop fluency, reason and problem both individually and with their peers.
